(Updated 2026)
Telephone Accessibility
If you need to contact me between sessions, please leave a voicemail message. While I may not be immediately available, I will make every reasonable effort to return your call within 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays).
Face-to-face sessions are strongly preferred. However, telephone or telehealth sessions may be used when in-person attendance is not possible due to illness, travel, or other circumstances requiring flexibility.
If you are experiencing a psychiatric or medical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You may also contact a local crisis hotline in your area.
Social Media and Professional Boundaries
To protect your privacy and maintain appropriate professional boundaries, I do not accept friend requests, connection requests, or follow requests from current or former clients on any social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
Engagement through social media can compromise confidentiality and blur therapeutic boundaries. If you have questions about this policy, we can discuss them during a session.
Electronic Communication
Electronic communication (including email, text messaging, or messaging apps) is not guaranteed to be secure or fully confidential.
These methods may be used for scheduling, cancellations, or brief administrative matters only. Please do not use electronic communication to discuss clinical concerns, therapy content, or emergency situations, as response times cannot be guaranteed.
If you choose to communicate electronically, you acknowledge and accept the inherent privacy risks involved.
Telehealth / Telemedicine Consent
When therapy is provided through electronic means (including video, phone, or other digital platforms), it is considered telehealth/telemedicine.
By participating in telehealth services, you acknowledge the following:
-
You may withdraw consent for telehealth at any time without affecting your right to future care.
-
Telehealth sessions are subject to the same confidentiality protections as in-person therapy, within the limits of technology.
-
You have the right to request records of telehealth sessions, subject to reasonable administrative fees where applicable.
-
No recordings, images, or session content will be shared with third parties or researchers without your explicit written consent.
Potential benefits of telehealth include increased accessibility, convenience, and continuity of care.
Potential risks include technical disruptions, delays, or limitations in the ability to fully observe non-verbal cues.
Confidentiality and Limits
All communications between client and therapist are confidential and protected by law, except in the following situations:
-
Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult
-
If the client poses a serious risk of harm to themselves or others
-
Court-ordered disclosure or legal requirement
Where possible and appropriate, you will be informed if confidentiality must be breached.
Minors
If you are under 18 years old, your parent or legal guardian may have rights to certain information related to your treatment.
Efforts will be made to balance parental rights with the minor’s need for privacy to support effective therapeutic work. Expectations regarding confidentiality will be discussed clearly at the beginning of treatment.
Fees, Cancellations, and No-Shows (recommended addition)
Appointments are reserved specifically for you. A fee may be charged for missed appointments or cancellations made with insufficient notice (typically less than 24 hours, unless otherwise agreed upon).
Repeated missed appointments or failure to attend scheduled sessions may result in a review of continued services.
Termination of Therapy
Ending therapy is an important process that will be handled thoughtfully and collaboratively whenever possible.
Termination may occur due to:
-
Client request
-
Clinical determination that therapy is no longer beneficial
-
Repeated missed sessions or non-attendance (e.g., three consecutive weeks without contact or prior arrangement)
-
Unpaid balances or administrative concerns
If termination becomes necessary, efforts will be made to discuss the reasons in advance and provide appropriate referrals to other qualified professionals.
Technology and Communication Risks
While reasonable precautions are taken to protect privacy and security, electronic communication and telehealth services may carry risks including:
-
Technical failure or disruption
-
Unauthorized access in rare circumstances
-
Reduced ability to observe non-verbal communication
By engaging in these services, you acknowledge and accept these risks.
Acknowledgment of Policies
At the time of intake, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the policies outlined in this document.
